Fight TVN (맞짱 / Mazzang -2008)

Mazzang
Starring:
Yoo Gun as Kang Gun
Lee Young Jin as So Hee
Lee Jong Soo as Kang Jin
Baek Do Bin as Choi Dae Ri
Kang Sung Jin
Jung Suk Won
Uhm Tae Woong as Kang Gun's father
Kim Soo Ro (cameo)

The drama about men who engage in fights and the deep bond that develops between them.

OMG! Can Yoo Geon look hotter and Baek Do Bin? Aye Carumba!!! The fight scenes were incredible and so believable. Really scripted and so totally well rehearsed. This was a totally awesome drama. I did have only one beef with this though. The very last episode was almost rushed to the extreme. What the.....??? There should have been at least, AT LEAST, 2-3 more episodes. I really wanted to see more of a fight between Choi Dae Ri and Kang Gun. They were leading us up to it......and "poof".....that was it. I really think more could have been done...but the fight scenes throughout the rest of the drama were so amazing that that is what keeps me from giving this drama a failing review. Holy enchilada! The girl, So-hee, well.....she wasn't all that pretty to me. I guess I was expecting someone more "meatier". She was so scrawny and thin. I just don't like those types. Anorexic is soooooo OUT!

I'll admit that I was so enthralled that the thought of searching for fight clubs DID run through my mind. Whew!! Oh, and the opening song is so freakin' awesome that it is now downloaded to my ever loveable iPod.

Immediately after coming off a suspension, Detective So-yung (Yoon-ah Song — Face) is thrust into one doozy of a case. Seems the victim died from acid. An acid released from inside his body. And this isn't the type of acid those crazy kids are fond of — the only trip these cats are taking is to the morgue.

To make matters worse, there are a couple more men dying off the same way. There appears to be a serial killer on the loose, and the last thing the victims are seeing is a long-haired woman in black (with some freaky blood-shot eyes).

Throw in a new partner and some crazy dreams and So-young has her work cut out for her.

This was totally different than what I expected. I'm happy to say it wasn't as scary as I was lead to believe. I am not a HORROR fan. But I had to watch this only because It had Lee Dong Wook. Such a cutie pie.

This started out as a typical crime drama. We are lead to many crime scenes. Lots of CSI and he said/she said. And on any typical thriller, we have a possible ghost who has a vendetta for revenge.

I will say I was a little intrigued as the story went about it's business. I was shocked though at the end. I really didn't expect it. And like a fool, the hints were all over in the movie but I chose to ignore them. I'm sure many who read this and watch it will be like..."I can't believe she didn't catch that!" Yeah, I was harboring hopes of all kinds in this movie.

LOL! And they, the makers of this film, left an opening for another movie but I don't think it'll happen. This movie, really, was just OK. It wasn't a great film only because it was TYPICAL. There wasn't any finess. No originality. This could have been made by anybody, anywhere.

I won't say it was bad. Something to watch if you are bored. Just not an extravagant movie that'll blow your mind away. A movie probably better rented than seen at the theaters.

Kick the Moon (Shinlaui Dalbam, 신라의 달밤-2001)

Kick the Moon

Starring:
Sung-jae Lee ... Park Young-jun
Seung-won Cha ... Choi Ki-woong
Hye-su Kim ... Min, Ju-ran
Jong-su Lee ... Min, Jin-seob

Ten years ago, a legendary fighter named Choi Gi-dong and a timid straight-A student named Park Young-joon leave for a high school field trip to Gyeongju city. But during their journey, fate befalls on them as they experience an unforgettable incident that would change the course of their lives.

One night during a school gala, Gi-dong leads his entire school to a huge brawl against a local gang while Young-joon chickens out and stays behind at the party by himself. The streets turn out to be a battlefield with blood gushing, heads bashing and bones breaking, but the gruesome fight nonetheless becomes history in the making. Gi-dong becomes admired for his brevity, while Young-joon gets ostracized for his fear.

Ten years later, Gi-dong and Young-joon coincidently meet each other at a club in Gyeongju. Surprisingly, Young-joon turns out to be a big time gangster while Gi-dong becomes a daunting phys ed teacher who transferred to a high school in Gyeongju. They feel glad about their unexpected reunion, but the mood gets tense as they rekindle old yet not-so-fond memories.

Before they bid farewell, both Gi-dong and Young-joon suddenly find a pretty damsel named Ju-ran in distress. In an instant, they fall headlong in love with her as Ju-ran's gleeful smile sweeps them off their feet.

Gi-dong makes his claim on Ju-ran, but Young-joon calls it a fair game. Young-joon planned to make his trip to Gyeongju a short visit, but he extends his stay to win Ju-ran's heart and to get back at Gi-dong for old time's sake. Gi-dong gets infuriated over Young-joon's decision since he won't listen to him like the good old days. Even though fighting over Ju-ran becomes a grueling test to their friendship, the situation gets worse when they practically get the whole city involved. It's a fight to the finish to win one girl's heart, even if it takes a few bones to break.

This was a pretty decent movie. It started out a bit slow though but picked up at the end.

The premise of the movie has you believing this was all about two guys fighting over a girl. Not in actuality. Once we graduate, most of us, will lose contact with best friends in high school. This is a story about two good friends who meet up and who are totally not what they were in high school. This story is about how we reconnect as friends and maintaining that friendhip. So don't let the trailer fool ya or the plot.

This was a good movie to rid you of the boredom doldrums.....
