A Wacky Switch (Nadooya kanda / 나두야 간다 -2005)

Dong-hwa is a complete loser, whose first novel called 'I met Kafka' brought the publishing company bankruptcy. To bring home the bacon, he tries to drive a taxi but only ends up running over someone. One day Dong-hwa is offered a job to do ghostwriting for a CEO named Man-chul, who turns out to be the ringleader of the biggest criminal syndicate in Korea. Dong-hwa soon finds himself perfectly at ease in the mob, while Man-chul starts learning about the other part of the world.

This was a pretty good movie. A little dull in some parts but then in some...hilarious!

The end was pretty good but they left us hanging with Dong-hwa's wife. Where'd she go? Somebody wasn't editing script during that part. And Man-chul? What was up with him? I couldn't tell if he was upset because he wanted out of the "mob" business or if Dong-hwa's antics pissed him off. I wasn't too thrilled with that actor. I think somebody else should have played that part.

But in all, the movie was fun. I have always loved Jeong Jun Ho! He's pretty good when it comes to playing comedic and action parts and put together equals fun!

Hyo-Jin is the quietly industrious employee at a Korean dating agency who, while being very talented at finding her clients' their perfect match, finds nothing but a void in her own romantic life. Her ditzy friends are obsessed with finding that special someone though they are too caught up in day-dreams to achieve their goal and Hyo-Jin invents a boyfriend for herself as not to encourage their prying. One of Hyo-Jin's latest and most awkward clients - seemingly distant and disorganised Hyun-Soo - leaves an impression that gets underneath the surface of her professional demeanour. As she tries to match Hyun-Soo up with his dream date she is constantly battling with her own feelings and his foibles while also having to face the scrutiny of her colleagues.

This was a sweet romantic comedy. I've read other reviews about this about how it was typical Korean....blah, blah, blah, blah. I think it was way different than some I've watched. A different scenario, script....whatever. I liked it. A real feel good movie. One of those girls who are down and out and have nobody to love and no one to love them in return. When you have lost all hope, someone unexpected comes into your life and heart and makes it worth to keep trying and going on.

So I don't care what others think. I didn't at least cry with this one...maybe I got a little sad but that was it...in the end.....*smiling*

North Korean Guys (Donghaemulgwa Baekdusan, 동해물과 백두산이-2003)

A North Korean navy officer and a sergeant are drinking and fishing and end up falling asleep on a boat. The following morning they find themselves swept away to the beach of the East Sea in South Korea. From that time on, the officer Baekdu (played by Jeong Junho) and Donghae (Gong Hyeongjin) make all out attempts to come back to the North, a process filled with many comical episodes. They are amazed to see the South's young slim women in bikinis and good-for-nothing penniless rakes who regard the two, just from their dialects, as ethnic Koreans from China's Yanbian Prefecture. Even policemen believe that the two have come from police headquarters to appraise their work performances. Things get worse when a runaway girl named Nara befriends them and her father, a police department head, dispatches two detectives to bring her back. Their attempts to go back to North Korea are foiled every time they try to leave, and they end up spending their summer vacation in the South.

HA-HA-HA! If only getting into South Korea were that simple. I'm trying to get there myself. I wish!

The poor guys enjoy a bit of North Korean soju (????), get drunk, fall asleep, get woken by a typhoon, and wash up in paradise. A lot of laughs as they both try to get money, clothes, food, and a way back to their homeland. Then add a couple of idiot detectives who are supposed to be capturing their captains runaway daughter and instead get mistaken for the North Korean men who were the one who actually stole their clothes.

This was highly enjoyable. Even though I'm not even slightly Korean, or Asian as a matter of fact, I couldn't hear the accent they kept talking about. I'm guessing the actors had to change their accents for the movie which I couldn't detect. If I had been a Korean, I might have caught it????

Again, watch to the very end. Did they make it home? You have to watch it to find out.

My Boss, My Hero 2 (투사부일체-2005)

This time round, our hero Doo Sik (Jung Jun Ho) is a senior at college, where he is studying to become a teacher. During the day he works hard teaching morality and ethics, but at night continues to work as a gangster. He gets a placement at the local high school, working as a student teacher, but then trouble rises its ugly head. Always determined to keep him studying hard, Doo Sik's boss has also returned to high school to complete his own education. Now Doo Sik has to face his boss at school as well as at night!

I have to say this movie was a little better than the first which in reality most movies with continuations usually suck. This one, at first, started out quite stupid and boring and didn't make much sense but then finally once he started working at school......it was all uphill.

This one wasn't as funny, to me, at the first one. More serious dealing with trust and molestation from teachers. This one sort of made me mad. Not at the movie, but in general, how people with authority take advantage of children and abuse those rights. Just made me sick. I will say that once Do-sik beat the crap out of the "source" tears formed and from that point on it was a poignant movie. Okay, and there was one point at the end that just had me smile with tears. Very good movie. Very, very, very good.

When a young gang leader seems to be just a bit too stupid to effectively carry out his daily tasks--embarrassing his gang members and himself frequently--his superiors order him to go back to school for his high school diploma. Once situated in the school, posing as a 19-year-old, he soon learns that the school is even more corrupt and vicious a place to spend his days than in his gang. After he can't stand it any longer, he decides to stop playing "the innocent student" and unleashes his wrath on the place.


I really liked this movie...surprisingly. I am now officially going to watch the second one in a few hours. It was funny...hehe! I will say that it was a little hard for me to imagine Du-sik as 20 years old. His birthday is a year before mine......so in 2001 when this movie was produced he was 31! There is only so much make-up and cosmetics can hide.......

But if you looked past that, and just enjoyed the show, it could have been believable. LOL! A fun movie kids and adults would like.

I really thought this would be so much better. It was good and all but I guess the hype was set too high.

The premise of the story was cute and unimaginable but very funny. I'm seriously trying to decide if I want to see the other two MttM movies. I'm not sure. Maybe if and when I'm bored. LOL!

I really think my beef with the whole movie has everything to do with the couple. I didn't feel that "romantic" tingle in the movie...ever. Oh this was typical Korean romance, i.e......situation, comedy, mishap, comedy, love, mishap, situation, etc.
